Stonewall Jackson's Headquarters

This home served briefly as General Jackson’s headquarters during the Valley Campaign of the Civil War from 1861 to 1862. Along with General Jackson, noted Confederate officer, Turner Ashby, and cartographer, Jed Hotchkiss, organized their battle plans in these rooms.

George Washington's Office Museum

This small log cabin, between September 1755 and December 1756, is where George Washington kept an office while he supervised the construction of Fort Loudoun.

Old County Courthouse Civil War Museum

Sundays from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Built in 1840, the courthouse served as a prison and a hospital to both Northern and Southern troops. Winchester changed hands over 70 times during the Civil War. Soldiers from both sides wrote their names on the walls.

Glen Burnie Historic House

The Glen Burnie Historic House is surrounded by acres of formal gardens and furnished with eighteenth- and nineteenth-century antiques, paintings and decorative objects collected by art connoisseur Julian Wood Glass Jr. Tours of the Gardens- which feature numerous fountains, sculpture and “folly” buildings – are self-guided.

Museum of the Shenandoah Valley

A regional museum that will interpret the art, history and culture of the Shenandoah Valley. The Museum has been designed by internationally acknowledged architect Michael Graves. The Museum will be open year-round except major holidays. The Museum has five main exhibition galleries and is approximately 50,000 square feet.

History buffs may want to take a guided or self-guided walking tour featuring beautiful architecture and local history.
