International Children's Festival

Winchester's International Children’s Festival was created to celebrate the area’s diverse youth population. This fun and educational festival will include a long list of cultural entertainers, exhibits representing countries from around the world, and an international food court.

Become a part of this new and unique festival.  See below for more information and the many ways to show your support or to get involved.

Represent Your Country

The Festival is looking for local organizations or groups to create an educational booth about their country of origin or favorite country. We will need several countries from each continent. For more information, please contact:

All countries are welcome however, we are starting with a target list:

  • Countries in the Middle East

  • France

Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL)

Under SOLs, please replace the first paragraph with: To make this festival an even better learning experience for area children, the SOLs will be included in the festival. A list of questions will be provided to participating youth. Then on the day of the festival, students will use their festival passports to visit each country and answer the questions for a prize. Keep checking back for more information (i.e. participating schools, questions, instructions, etc)!

Cultural Entertainment Needed

Entertainment is always an important part of any event. The Festival is looking for groups representing different cultures to entertain event goers. For example:

  • Karate/martial art demonstrations
  • Chinese traditional folk dancers
  • Native American dancers
  • Latino music
  • Cloggers or Country Line dancing demonstration
  • African drummers
  • Hellenic dancers
  • Traditional dances of India
  • Jewish music
  • Japanese singers
  • Panamanian Folkloric Dance
  • Caribbean Music and Drums
  • Irish Dancing or music
  • Thai Country Dancing
  • Much more...

Non-profit, Business, and Civic Group Participation

Area non-profit organizations, businesses and civic groups are welcome to participate in many areas:

  • Man a booth to distribute information about your organization (must provide a children’s activity)
  • Be a Volunteer
  • Donate supplies
  • Become an event sponsor (contact Beth Shobe at 533-3294)

International Food Court

Volunteer

There will be many opportunities for youth and adults to volunteer during the festival.  Do you need community hours for school or just like to get outside and be involved?  Contact Charlotte Fritts at cfritts@ci.winchester.va.us or 667-1815 for more information.
