The Director's Column

Thank you for visiting the Winchester Parks & Recreation Department’s homepage. Our website contains important information about the Department, its activities, special events, cancellations, and our user groups.

The Winchester Parks & Recreation Department has a variety of youth, adult and senior activities scheduled and we encourage you to take advantage of our offerings.

The Department is currently working with several community partners to build new and revitalize existing park facilities. Our projects include a 21,000 square foot Active Living and Recreation Center addition to the War Memorial Building in Jim Barnett Park. The Winchester Active Living and Recreation Center project will be home to the Shenandoah Area Agency on Aging Winchester Senior Center and will include a large fellowship hall, new restroom facilities, an expanded lobby area, a commercial kitchen, upgraded parking and a gymnasium. Construction is expected to be completed in the summer ’08. Other park projects include the revitalization of Frederick Douglass Park (winter ’07-‘08) and the indoor pool dehumidifier replacement (spring ’08.) We have just completed renovations to the War Memorial Building fitness room and I invite you to stop by and check out our new renovations.

Thank you for visiting our website. We look forward to serving you.
